International Conference on Meaningful Education (ICMEd)

KnE Social Sciences / International Conference on Meaningful Education (ICMEd)

The International Conference on Meaningful Education (ICMEd) 2018 was held on 25–26 October 2018, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in conjunction with the International Conference on Special and Inclusive Education (ICSIE) 2018. This conference was organised by the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the conference was “Developing Meaningful Education to Realise Just and Equitable Societies.” Meaningful education has emerged as a "new" paradigm in the educational field that emphasizes the character and personality formation of students. This kind of education is believed as an effective strategy to develop graduates who both master the required knowledge and skills and also have good moral that brings benefit to society and maintain human dignity.
Thus, this conference aimed to bring together academicians, practitioners, and independent researchers around the world from educational fields to share and exchange their knowledge, practices, and research results on areas related to education, particularly meaningful education. They were invited to present abstracts/papers relevant to the theme/subthemes including but not limited to Curriculum and Instruction, Teachers Professional, Development, Educational Leadership and Policy, Innovation in Education, Early Childhood and Primary Education, Guidance and Counseling in School, and Educational Technology. The conference also provided an interdisciplinary forum for participants to present and discuss current innovations, developments, challenges, as well as potential solutions to issues related to the practices of meaningful education at all education level. This conference encouraged the implementation of meaningful education as a part of strategies to improve education quality, equality, and equity. Further, this event provided direction for future research on education, particularly on meaningful education that we believe is important to provide useful information for educational policymakers, system administrators, leaders, and educators. Ultimately, we hope that this conference can contribute to the creation of a better society in general and the development of educational studies and practices in particular.
